Clare Blois

Scottish Artist

NEWS:  May 2025

All of a sudden the daylight has lengthened into the evening and we are having some gorgeous summer weather here in the highlands. I'm back from a brilliant few days painting "en plein air" at Inchnadamph (at the foot of Loch Assynt) with some good pals. The temperature was perfect and unusually there was no wind (which can be a proper nuisance). Too early for midges too, so no excuse not to get out there! Here's me starting off with a red ground. I only kept some tiny flecks of red, too much can be a bit gimmicky! The finished result needs more work, so I'm not showing it yet.
I have also been busy with the Redcastle Art Group Exhibition (see home page). It looks fantastic and we had a big crowd at the Opening. Invernessians, do get along there if you can.

Recently I had the privilege of contributing a painting to a series of 14 works representing the Stations of the Resurrection. 14 artists took part, not all of us church-goers, and we really enjoyed  the challenge, being given a free rein to interpret our bible extract in any way we liked. I was very happy to be allocated number 14 "Pentecost", involving flames and speaking in tongues. Many thanks to St Michael and All Angels Church, Inverness for taking me out of my comfort zone for an interesting and successful project. I believe the exhibition may be seen at a cathedral or two before the year is out.

I am working on some smaller paintings at present and then I'm off to Mull for some more fresh air. You are very welcome to visit my studio in Inverness, by appointment (because I do not keep regular hours). I have more paintings than are on the website and it's always worth getting in touch.
I am based at Inverness Creative Academy. (This is the former IRA / College building at Midmills, just above the Eastgate Centre in the middle of town).  The beautifully restored Assembly Hall boasts a great cafe run by Paolo, with changing art exhibitions around the walls and up the grand staircase to the balcony all round. Open to the public and worth a visit! My studio is in the building next door.
